In short: To translate a CV from Russian to English with MyEasyCV, upload your Russian CV (PDF, Word or TXT, up to 5 pages), choose English as the CV language and a design, and the English version is ready in about a minute. Summary, job titles, duties, skills and degrees are translated; your name, employers, universities and contacts are kept as written, so replace any Cyrillic with Latin spelling in the editor. Then delete the photo, date of birth, patronymic and other details US and UK employers do not expect, and download a PDF. Creating and previewing your first CV is free with an account; the clean PDF without watermark is paid.

How to translate your CV from Russian to English in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Upload your Russian CV

PDF, DOC, DOCX or TXT, up to 10 MB and 5 pages — a CV downloaded from hh.ru works, and a Canva design can be saved as PDF. The original layout does not matter.

  2. 2

    Choose English and a design

English is preselected when you come from this page. Pick one of 25+ templates; the photo is optional. In the optional note you can ask for “American English” or “British English”.

  3. 3

    Review, fix names and download

Replace any Cyrillic in names with Latin spelling, delete personal details an English CV does not need, and download the PDF.

What gets translated and what stays as written

Translated
Your profile or summary, job titles, duties and achievements, skills, degree titles and fields, courses, projects, volunteering and any custom section.
Kept as written
Your name, company, university and school names, email, phone, links, software (Excel, SAP, Python) and certification acronyms. Cyrillic stays Cyrillic — fix it in the editor: your name as in your international passport, the university by its official English name, the company in Latin letters (ООО «Ромашка» → Romashka LLC).
Not summarised
The tool is set up to keep every job, bullet and date without summarising. Still, compare the result with your CV before downloading.
Checked by you
The tool translates what your CV contains. Date of birth, marital status, citizenship, children, passport details or desired salary are not removed automatically — delete them in the editor before applying in the US or the UK.

Russian CV vs. US resume vs. UK CV

In English, the personal details and format change too. These are the most common conventions.

Russian-language CVUnited States (resume)United Kingdom (CV)
Length1–2 pages1 page; 2 for long careersUp to 2 pages
NameSurname, first name, patronymicFirst and last name in Latin lettersFirst and last name in Latin letters

General conventions, not rules — if the job ad asks for something else, follow the ad. Write months as words: 03.04.2025 is 3 April in Russia but March 4 in the US. Outside Russia, use your own country code.

How to write Russian degrees in English

Degree names are what gets mistranslated most. Use the university's own English name and explain the qualification.

Среднее общее образование
Secondary school diploma — usually left out once you have a degree.
Среднее профессиональное (колледж, техникум)
Give the level, field and length: “Vocational college diploma in Accounting (3 years)”.
Бакалавр
Bachelor's degree, with the field: “Bachelor's degree in Economics, HSE University”.
Специалист
No direct English equivalent. Write “Specialist degree in Civil Engineering (5-year program)” so level and length are clear; official equivalence is set by evaluators such as WES or UK ENIC.
Магистр
Master's degree: “Master's degree in Finance”.
Кандидат наук / доктор наук
“Candidate of Sciences (Kandidat Nauk) in Physics”, often explained as “comparable to a PhD”. Доктор наук: “Doctor of Sciences (Doktor Nauk)”, the higher degree.
Красный диплом, средний балл
Red diploma: “Diploma with honours”. Do not convert your average to a GPA yourself — write “Average grade: 4.8/5” or get an official evaluation from WES or UK ENIC.

Calques and common mistakes

Translate an English CV into Russian

Moving back, applying to a Russian-speaking employer in Kazakhstan, Russia or elsewhere, or asked for a CV in Russian? It works the other way round too: upload your English CV and choose Russian as the CV language.

Name
For Russian, your name is usually written in Cyrillic — check the spelling in the editor.
Format
Russian-language CVs often include a photo and date of birth; both are optional. A Bachelor's degree becomes «бакалавр», a Master's «магистр».

Russian to English CV translation: FAQ

How do I translate my CV from Russian to English?

Upload your Russian CV, choose English as the CV language and a design, and the English version is ready in about a minute. Fix any Cyrillic names, remove unneeded personal details and download the PDF.

Is it free?

Creating your first CV and seeing the full English result is free with an account, no card needed. The clean PDF without watermark is part of the One-Time Package (one payment; the price depends on your country) or the Pro Plan.

Is it better than Google Translate, DeepL or Yandex Translate?

A general translator converts the file as it is and can break the layout. MyEasyCV writes the content of your CV in English and lays it out again in an editable template. Either way, read the result before you send it.

Is this a certified translation?

No. MyEasyCV writes your CV in English for job applications. Diplomas and documents for visas, USCIS, licensing boards or other authorities need a certified translation.

How do I write my name — and what about the patronymic?

Use the Latin spelling from your international passport, e.g. “Ivan Petrov”, so it matches your visa. English CVs usually leave the patronymic out. The tool keeps your name as written, so change Cyrillic in the editor.

Should an English resume have a photo?

For the US and the UK, usually not. In MyEasyCV the photo is optional — without one, your CV has none.

American or British English?

Use the one of the country you apply in: American for the US (organize, center), British for the UK (organise, centre). Ask for it in the optional note.

CV or resume — and what is a «резюме»?

Резюме is the Russian word for both. In English, “CV” is used in the UK and Europe, “resume” in the US and Canada.

Can I translate my CV from English to Russian?

Yes. Upload your English CV, choose Russian as the CV language and a design. The same rule applies: the first CV is free to create and preview with an account; the clean PDF without watermark is paid.

Your experience is the same in any language. Make sure it reads well in English.

Upload your Russian CV — the first English version is free to create and preview.
