How the cover letter generator works

  1. 1

    Add your CV

Upload your CV as a PDF, Word (DOCX) or TXT file — up to 6 pages — or paste the text.

  2. 2

    Paste the job description

Copy the job ad into the box. The letter is written for this job: its title, the company and the skills it asks for.

  3. 3

    Choose tone and length

Professional, friendly or confident; short, standard or detailed. Standard is about 250–320 words, a typical one-page letter.

  4. 4

    Edit and download

Read the letter, change anything you like on the page, then copy it or download it as PDF or Word.

  5. 5

Tailor your CV to the same job (optional)

One click opens our CV builder with your CV and the job description already filled in, so your CV and your letter tell the same story.

Why use this cover letter generator

Built from your real CV

The letter only uses experience, skills and results that are in your CV. It does not invent employers, numbers or achievements; where a detail is missing you see a [placeholder] instead.

Written for this job

Your experience is matched to what the job description asks for, using its key terms naturally — not a generic template with the company name swapped in.

Yours to edit and download

Edit the text on the page, copy it into an application form, or download a clean PDF or Word file. No watermark.

Goes well with a tailored CV

Hiring managers read the letter next to your CV. Tailor the CV to the same job description in our builder, so both say the same thing.

Plans

The cover letter is free with an account. To download a tailored CV without the watermark, choose the One-Time package or a monthly plan — see plans

Cover letter questions

What is a cover letter?

A cover letter is a short letter you send with your CV when you apply for a job. It explains why you want this role and which parts of your experience make you a good fit, in a few paragraphs on one page.

How long should a cover letter be?

Most cover letters are 250 to 400 words — three or four short paragraphs that fit on one page. Our generator offers short (about 150–200 words), standard (about 250–320) and detailed (about 350–420).

How do you start a cover letter?

Greet the reader, then open with the role you are applying for and the one or two strongest reasons you fit it. Skip lines like «My name is…» — your name is already at the top.

How do you address a cover letter?

Use the hiring manager's name if the job ad gives it, for example «Dear Ms Rivera,». If no name is given, «Dear Hiring Manager,» is fine — that is what the generator writes when the job description names no one.

What should a cover letter include?

Your contact details, a greeting, the role you are applying for, two or three examples from your experience that match the job description, why you want to work there, and a short closing with a thank-you and your name.

Do you need a cover letter?

Not every job asks for one. When the application asks for a cover letter, or lets you add one, a letter written for that job helps the reader connect your CV to the role.

Is the Cover Letter Generator free?

Yes. Create a free account and you can write 3 cover letters, edit them and download them as PDF or Word with no watermark. Our paid plans include more cover letters.

Does it make things up?

It is instructed to use only facts from your CV and the job description. Details it cannot know — a name, a number, a result — are left in [brackets] for you to fill in. Always read your letter before you send it.

Is my CV stored?

No. Your CV and the job description are used to write your letter and are not saved with your account.

Can I tailor my CV to the same job?

Yes. Next to your letter, «Tailor your CV to this job» opens our CV builder with your CV and the job description filled in. New accounts preview their first tailored CV free; downloading it without the watermark is part of our paid plans.
