General conventions, not rules — if the job ad asks for something else, follow the ad. Multinationals hiring in Indonesia sometimes still ask for a photo on an English CV. Write months as words: 03/04/2025 is 3 April in Indonesia and March 4 in the US.
How to write Indonesian degrees and IPK in English
Keep the university name as it is and explain the level in English.
- SMA / SMK
- High school diploma; for SMK: “Vocational high school diploma in Accounting”. Usually left out once you have a degree.
- D3 (Diploma Tiga)
- Give the level and length: “Diploma (D3, 3-year program) in Accounting”. A bare “Diploma 3” means little abroad.
- D4 / Sarjana Terapan
- “Applied Bachelor's degree (D4, 4 years) in Tourism”, with your field.
- S1 (Sarjana)
- Bachelor's degree with the major: “Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering, Universitas Gadjah Mada”. S.E. is a “Bachelor of Economics”, S.Kom. a “Bachelor of Computer Science”.
- S2 (Magister)
- Master's degree: M.M. is a “Master of Management”, M.T. a “Master of Engineering”.
- S3 (Doktor)
- “PhD” or “Doctorate in …” with the field.
- IPK and predikat
- Keep the scale and use a decimal point: IPK 3,65 becomes “GPA 3.65/4.00”; “dengan pujian” is “cum laude”. Do not convert grades yourself; for an official equivalence use WES (US, Canada) or UK ENIC (UK).

“Bachelor's degree” with your major, e.g. “Bachelor of Economics” for S.E. Do not add S.E. or S.Kom. after your name; it goes in the Education section.
What if I am a recent graduate with no work experience?
List internships, student organisations, university projects and your thesis (“Undergraduate thesis: …”). The tool only translates what your CV contains, so add anything missing in the editor.
American or British English?
