General conventions, not rules: if the job ad asks for something else, follow the ad. Cyprus numbers use +357. Write months as words: in the US, 03/04/2025 reads as March 4.
How to write Greek degrees in English
Degree names are what gets mistranslated most. Watch the word "diploma": in Greek it can be a five-year engineering degree, while in English a diploma usually ranks below a degree.
- Apolytirio Lykeiou (ΓΕΛ or ΕΠΑΛ)
- High school diploma. If you show the grade, keep the 20-point scale: "Final grade: 18.5/20".
- IEK (ΙΕΚ)
- "Post-secondary vocational diploma (IEK) in Graphic Design", with the length shown on your certificate. Not a Bachelor's degree.
- Ptychio (university or TEI)
- "Bachelor's degree in Economics (4 years), Athens University of Economics and Business". Keep the institution as it appears on your degree, even if it has since been renamed.
- Diploma from a Polytechnic school
- A five-year degree: "Diploma in Civil Engineering (5-year degree programme)". Do not call it a Master's yourself; for an official UK comparison, use UK ENIC.
- Metaptychiako (ΠΜΣ)
- Master's degree: "MSc in Finance" or "MA in Education".
- Didaktoriko
- PhD.
- Grade out of 10
- Do not convert it to a GPA or a UK degree class yourself: "7,5 Λίαν Καλώς" becomes "Final grade: 7.5/10 (Very Good)". For an official equivalence, use WES (US, Canada) or UK ENIC.

Should I keep military service on an English CV?
For the UK and the US, usually not. If the job ad asks for it, or it explains a gap in your career, one line is enough: "Military service: completed (2019)".
Can I upload a Europass CV?
Yes. Save it as a PDF and upload it; the content is laid out again in a shorter, cleaner template. Keep the CEFR language levels (A1 to C2).
What do "Lower" and "Proficiency" mean on a Greek CV?
In Greece they are everyday names for English certificates at B2 and C2 level. Abroad they mean little, and "Lower" even sounds weak. Write the level and the certificate: "English: C2 (Cambridge C2 Proficiency)".
How will my name appear in Latin letters?
Names are not translated, so check how yours appears. Write the spelling you want in the notes field, ideally as in your passport ("Georgios Papadopoulos"), or correct it in the editor.
Is this an official translation?
