What gets translated and what stays the same

- The profile, job titles, duties and results, skills, degree titles and fields, courses, projects, volunteering and any custom section.
- Kept as is
- The name, the names of companies, universities and schools, email, phone, links, software names (Excel, SAP, Python) and certification acronyms.
- Not summarised
- The tool is set up to keep every job, bullet point and date, without summarising. Still, compare the result with the Portuguese CV before downloading.
- Checked by you
- The tool translates what the CV contains. If it lists a date of birth, marital status, nationality, NIF (tax number) or Cartão de Cidadão number, these are translated as they are — delete them in the editor before applying in the UK or the US.
Portuguese CV vs. US resume vs. UK CV
An English CV is not only a different language — the personal details and format change too. These are the most common conventions.

These are general conventions, not rules — if the job ad asks for something else, follow the ad. Write months as words: 03/04/2025 is 3 April in Portugal and March 4 in the US.
How to write Portuguese qualifications in English
Degree names are what gets mistranslated most. Keep the university name in Portuguese and explain the qualification in English.
- Ensino secundário (12.º ano)
- "Secondary education (12th grade)"; for the US, "High school diploma". With a university degree, it is usually left out.
- Curso profissional
- "Vocational secondary programme" with the field: "Vocational secondary programme in Tourism (12th grade)".
- CTeSP
- "Higher professional technical course (CTeSP, 2 years, 120 ECTS) in …" — not a bachelor's degree.
- Licenciatura
- Bachelor's degree (since Bologna, usually 3 years and 180 ECTS): "Bachelor's degree in Management, Universidade do Porto". Never "licence".
- Mestrado, mestrado integrado, doutoramento
- Master's degree. A mestrado integrado combines the bachelor's and master's cycles in one programme: "Integrated Master's degree in Civil Engineering". Doutoramento: "PhD in …".
- Média final (0–20)
- Do not convert it to a GPA yourself. Write "Final grade: 16/20", or get an official equivalence from a credential evaluation service such as WES (US and Canada) or UK ENIC (UK).

Is this a certified translation?
No. MyEasyCV writes the CV in English for job applications, where employers expect a normal CV. Diplomas and documents for visas or public bodies need a certified translation.
Should the NIF and Cartão de Cidadão number stay on the CV?
No. A tax or ID card number has no place on a UK or US CV, and the date of birth and marital status are usually left out too. The tool does not remove them automatically — delete them in the editor.
What is a "licenciatura" in English?
A Bachelor's degree. "Licenciado em Gestão" becomes "Bachelor's degree in Management" — not "licensed in Management", which sounds like a professional licence.
How do I show a grade of "16 valores"?
Portuguese grades run from 0 to 20, so write "Final grade: 16/20". Do not convert it to a GPA yourself; if an employer needs an official equivalence, use a service such as WES (US and Canada) or UK ENIC (UK).
American or British English?
Use the one of the country you apply in: British for the UK and Ireland (organise, centre), American for the US (organize, center). Ask for it in Additional Notes and check it in the editor.
