How to translate your CV from Turkish to English in 3 steps
- 1
Upload your Turkish CV
PDF, DOC, DOCX or TXT, up to 10 MB and 5 pages. Made it in Canva? Download it as a PDF. The original layout does not matter — the content is read and laid out again.
- 2
Choose English and a design
English is preselected when you come from this page. Pick one of 25+ templates; the photo is optional — leave it out and the CV has none. In the optional note you can ask for “American English” or “British English”.
- 3
Review, edit and download
Read the English version, change any line in the editor and delete the personal details an English CV does not need. Then download the PDF for your application.
What gets translated and what stays the same
- Translated
- Your profile or summary, job titles, duties and achievements, skills, degree titles and fields, courses, projects, volunteering and any custom section.
- Kept as is
- Your name, company, university and school names, email, phone, links, software (Excel, SAP, Python) and certification acronyms. Turkish letters such as ç, ş, ğ and ı stay too — that is fine on an English CV.
- Not summarised
- The tool is set up to keep every job, bullet and date without summarising. Still, compare the result with your CV before downloading.
- Checked by you
- The tool translates what your CV contains. Date and place of birth, marital status, T.C. ID number, military status or nationality are not removed automatically — delete them in the editor before applying in the US or the UK.
Turkish CV vs. US resume vs. UK CV
In English, the personal details and format change too. These are the most common conventions.
| Turkey | United States (resume) | United Kingdom (CV) | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Called | CV or özgeçmiş | Resume | CV |
| Length | 1–2 pages | 1 page; 2 for long careers | Up to 2 pages |
| Photo | Common | No | No |
| Personal details | Date of birth, marital status, military status | City, phone, email, LinkedIn | City, phone, email, LinkedIn |
| Phone | 0532 123 45 67 | +90 532 123 45 67 (with country code) | +90 532 123 45 67 (with country code) |
| Dates | 03/2021 – Halen | Mar 2021 – Present | Mar 2021 – Present |
| Profile | Kariyer hedefi (optional) | 2–3 line summary | 3–4 line personal statement |
| References | Listed with name and phone | Left out; asked for later | Left out or given on request |
General conventions, not rules — if the job ad asks for something else, follow the ad. Write months as words: 03/04/2025 is 3 April in Turkey but March 4 in the US. Keep a driving licence if the job needs it: “Driving licence: Class B”.
How to write Turkish degrees in English
Degree names are what gets mistranslated most. Keep the school name as it is (or use the university's official English name) and explain the qualification.
- Lise / Anadolu Lisesi
- High school diploma: “Kadıköy Anadolu Lisesi (high school)”. Usually left out once you have a degree.
- Ön lisans (MYO)
- Associate degree, with the length: “Associate degree in Computer Programming (2 years)”.
- Lisans
- Bachelor's degree: “BSc in Industrial Engineering” or “BA in Economics”. Never “License”.
- Yüksek lisans (tezli / tezsiz)
- Master's degree: “MSc in Finance (with thesis)” or “MA in International Relations (non-thesis)”.
- Doktora
- PhD: “PhD in Molecular Biology”.
- Hazırlık, çift anadal, yandal
- English preparatory year; double major; minor. For Erasmus: “Erasmus exchange semester (Spring 2023)”.
- Not ortalaması
- On a 4.00 scale, write it as is: “GPA: 3.21/4.00”. On a 100-point scale, give the scale: “Grade average: 78/100”. For official equivalence, use WES (US and Canada) or UK ENIC (UK).
Literal mistakes on Turkish CVs
These word-for-word translations most often give away a machine-translated Turkish CV.
| Turkish | Literal mistake | On an English CV |
|---|---|---|
| Staj / Stajyer | Stage / Stager | Internship / Intern |
| Lisans mezunu | License graduate | BSc / BA in … |
| Satış sorumlusu | Sales responsible | Sales Executive / Sales Representative |
| … görevlerinde bulundum | I took duty in… | Managed / Coordinated / Worked on… |
| Halen | Still | Present |
| İngilizce: İyi derecede | English: Good degree | English: B2 (CEFR); Turkish: native |
| Bilgisayar bilgisi: İyi | Computer knowledge: good | Name the tools: Excel, SAP, Python |
| Ehliyet: B sınıfı | License: B | Driving licence: Class B |
| Askerlik: Yapıldı | Military: done | Military service: completed (if needed) |

Turkish to English CV translation: FAQ
How do I translate my CV from Turkish to English?
Upload your Turkish CV, choose English as the CV language and a design, and the English version is ready in about a minute. Review it, remove personal details US and UK employers do not expect, and download the PDF.
Is it free?
Creating your first CV and seeing the full English result is free with an account, no card needed. The clean PDF without watermark is part of the One-Time Package (one payment; the price depends on your country) or the Pro Plan.
Is it better than Google Translate or DeepL?
A general translator converts the file as it is and can break the layout. MyEasyCV writes the content of your CV in English and lays it out again in an editable template. Either way, read the result before you send it.
Is this a certified (yeminli) translation?
No. MyEasyCV writes your CV in English for job applications. Diplomas and documents for visas, recognition or other authorities need a sworn or certified translation.
Should I list military service or my T.C. ID number?
For employers abroad, usually not: never list your ID number, and military status rarely matters. If a Turkey-based employer asks for it, “Military service: completed” is enough.
Should an English resume have a photo?
For the US and the UK, usually not. In MyEasyCV the photo is optional — without one, your CV has none.
American or British English?
Use the one of the country you apply in: American for the US (organize, center), British for the UK (organise, centre). Ask for it in the optional note.
Will my university and company names be translated?
No. Names of universities, schools and companies stay in Turkish, so employers can verify them; the degree title and field are translated.
Can I translate my CV from English to Turkish?
Yes. Upload your English CV, choose Turkish as the CV language and a design. The same rule applies: the first CV is free to create and preview with an account; the clean PDF without watermark is paid.
Your experience is the same in any language. Make sure it reads well in English.
Upload your Turkish CV — the first English version is free to create and preview.
